When Napoleon escaped from exile for the Hundred Days, Colbert did not initially rejoin him, instead waiting until the king had fled and Napoleon had taken the throne in Paris. When Colbert finally brought the regiment to Paris, he went ahead of the regiment and went to an ongoing inspection of the troops. Napoleon noticed him and remarked,

Napoleon: "Ahah, there you are, General Colbert! You are arriving quite late!"
Colbert: "Sire, I could come no sooner."
Napoleon : "Come! You're late! What kept you?"
Colbert: "Sire, not as late as you, I have been waiting for you for a year."

Was GdB even but hey if you once dare to let the empereur & Marechal Berthier down how you would imagine to return again and with the same epaulettes ;. Invitation itself is already the most admirable rank for such a situation i think ;.
