I’ve only played a couple of games vs the AI while I learn the controls.

Initial impressions are not good. But I hope that will improve with practice.

It has simular, but not as bad, issues with graphics to Histwar.
The long battalions in line overlap in odd looking ways. I even had a unit in line have ½ its length through the building it was near, this building was occupied be enemy troops at the time.
You see some funny things when units are moving in line. I like the ‘maypole dance’ as the sprites circle in opposite directions to get to the new location.

It has many great features, the dispatch of couriers to deliver orders for example. There are no-doubt other good things, but they are hard to discover from the rather pathetic tutorial & brief (they had to use big font to fill up 30 or so pages) manual.

One thing that should have been made obvious was the ‘other’ context sensitive pop-up for giving orders.
The one that appears after you order a unit to a new location is advertised, but not the one that allows you to give orders like Charge, & deploy skirmishers. I discovered this by accident.
To activate it: click on your units flag then, with the pointer still on the flag, right click & release. The options appear.

If anyone else has some handy tips please post them up.
There must be a way to order troops to their destination in march column, then change to line/attack column at their destination for example.

I am mainly disappointed by the controls. This game is the successor to SMG & A:NGV , as explained in the manual. Those games had far better controls. It was relatively easy to order your brigades about, information on their moral was much more sensibly displayed. Visual clues as to where your units were going & doing were better also.

You would think they would keep such good features rather than develop confusing & space wasting substitutes, like the silly grid of icons showing the units status. These are obscure looking & its difficult to tell which are relevant. Some appear to be buttons, but others are indicators.

Sid Meyers Gettysburg & Austerlitz: Napoleons Greatest Victory were much better in most ways, I think.

Uncle Billy on KS wrote:I can now load the KS oobs and sprites without any errors. I still have flag issues to correct, but I don't think that will be too large of a problem. Later next week, we can probably try out the first version of KS Napoleon Mod II. :)

The music is in the mod. I actually enjoy the bagpipes the most. I won't be able to get rid of the bugle calls until I can mod the toolbar.

Late breaking news: The flags are in.
